I'm such a dork...

I made a fool of myself in two different ways at the same time.

Here's what happened..

I got out of work and drove to Hollywood Video, cause you know it's Tuesday and I gotta have my new movies on 'new movie tuesday'.
Anyway, I always take my phone and listen to my music on it through earphones. Today..I had it really loud and I didn't even realize it. I'm walking through the store and Everlong comes on. I was jammin and scanning the shelves and walking sideways (accidentally in front of people) and I didnt realize that more and more people were gathering behind me. *sigh*...I also didn't realize that I was singing out loud and dancing. It also may have looked like I was performing in front of a small audience in the back of the store...at least to newcomers who enter the store.
I can't sing and I definately can't dance. I just kind of "bob around".
By the time I turned around and noticed all the people...I know I must have really traumatized them.

I was first in line at the register.

I think they did that on purpose.

lmfao....so, you dance to your own beat.

Crack me up. No one tapped you on the shoulder or anything?!? Look at it this way, at least they know you now when you go in Hollywood video because who could forget that kind of show?

Hee! At least you were singing to something that is current (um, I'm assuming it is a current song since I, queen of Unhipness, don't recognize the name) - if that'd been me, I would've been busted for singing something like Copacabana... and unironically, too. Yes, the Barry Manilow song. I am THAT hip.

Cheers!

Congrats on being featured!

I got "caught" once - was driving our old VW van, no radio, and had my walkman on. I was bopping along, singing at the top of my lungs (and I can't carry a tune in a bucket!) when I got to a stop light. Look to my right, and there is a whole convertible of gorgeous guys DYING laughing at me. Did I mention my hair was REALLY long and they couldn't see the Walkman? Yeah, that light couldn't turn green fast enough!! I feel your pain . . .

Did you get paid for that performance? Or at least get a free movie?

Creative Junkie said...

omgosh, I could have written this! Ever since I got my iPod, I tend to forget that I'm out in public and this becomes a constant source of humiliation for my kids.

Debbie said...

oh my gosh...the mental image I have is soo funny. Do you think they have that on their surveillance tapes?

Lula! said...

But at least it was Everlong and not something cheesy like Air Supply!

And today's New Movie Tuesday! Go get the latest and be sure to sing away while doing so.

Good for you. Who cares what those people think anyway? They were probably totally jealous of your groovin' spirit.

oh, man, you know you made their day!

More people should dance and sing like you, we would all be happier!

Cracks me up! I can just imagine seeing this! I think, though, I can see it with me as the iPoding dancer!

Jen said...

Don't feel bad. I do that same thing whenever I have my iPod on.

Ha! See, the old people in Footloose were right! Dancing and music IS evil!

That was YOU? I was wondering who that crazy singing and dancing new release movie nut was.

I hope you at least got the movie that you wanted. :)

I Love it when I run across people completely uninhibited in public. I smile, get into the groove and wish I had the balls to be as fun and free!
:-)

That is awesome! I sing and dance in public frequently. I don't care what people think because it makes me feel good!

Melanie Dickens said...

I agree with others, we should all be so free. I've been caught before too, it is humiliating but hey how many of them will you see again.

Jenni said...

This is precisely why I keep my groove in the kitchen. The only witnesses are my poor children and perhaps a random neighbor kid.

Melissa said...

Dance like no one's watching. Thank you for the wonderful example of this great quote.

Peggy said...

Funny girl!

Sherri said...

Cute!!! Don't you think the world could be a lot more fun if people danced like no one was watching?

Stephanie said...

Oh dear, that's pretty embarrassing. Aren't you glad you have a good sense of humor to help you through times like that? :-)

Michelle said...

Too funny! I love how everyone was watching you. Are you sure no one got it on video from their phones?

Kimberly said...

I always embarass my family because I have no problem dancing through a store. I guess I figure its not hurting anyone. Weird looks can never hurt me...sticks and stones...hahaha!

thotlady said...

I am always worried that I will burst out singing when I am listening to my ipod in public.

Sometimes you just get into it...you have to groove.

Summer said...

That sounds like one of those dreams you have when you're in school and really stressed about finals. At least you weren't in your underwear.

latree said...

you shouldn't be ashame to be happy :D

Ronnica said...

Oh wow! I don't think I could do that. I get too embarrassed to sing along and dance when I'm in the car beside other drivers!

Dapoppins said...

You are not a dork. You are a wonderful woman.

Say that to yourself three times before you next visit the video store.

I love the layout of your blog!

katylinvw said...

lol! this is hillarious! i usually do this in the safety of my car, but . . . :) happy SITS day!

Buttons and Dots Photography said...

At least you provided some entertainment to them while they shopped!

Alison said...

Congratulations on being SITS's featured blogger. I'm bad enough mouthing the words while I work out...I'm always afraid I'll forget where I am and start singing.

Jess NBP said...

HAHAHA I do that in the car.

Anonymous said...

HA! I got the best mental picture of you performing! I am known to sing (horribly) loud, but figure I'll never see the people staring at me again, so it's all good...

Kaza said...

Okay, first of all: Everlong? One of the BEST songs EVER. And I totally would have been publicly rocking out too (how could you NOT?). And second of all: LOVE. YOUR. BLOG. And am subscribing right now.

I love it!

Just Lisa said...

LMAO! This was a good one!

Unknown said...

It reminds me of the iPod dancer in the commercial!

Wep said...

I do that when i jog! And I'm always surprised at least once a week when someone comes out of their garage or something. Nothing wrong with that :)

Insane Mama said...

SO FUNNY! I can only imagine.

Missy said...

LOVE IT! So did your audience just scatter when you stopped? My neighbors have a running joke about how I dance in my kitchen to bluegrass and Akon. Whatever. They're looking in MY windows! Dance on, sista!

Melissa Lester said...

Well, they were there for entertainment, right? You just gave them a show they didn't have to rent!

Anonymous said...

That's why I only dance/sing in the shower and bathroom!

Sarah said...

I seriously LIVE for moments like that!!!! You probably made those people's day and then they probably blogged about it later! ;) Hooray for being the topic at the watercooler!

Tara said...

Love it!!!

Unknown said...

LOL!!

I used to do that in the car, much to the embarrassment of my kids. :-)

Unknown said...

Oh this is amazing. I do this all the time in public!! I'm convinced I'm like one of those people on American Idol who really think they can sing....but they really, really can't. LOL Thanks for the smile. Have a great day!

Givinya De Elba said...

Oh I wish I was there! Awesome story!

Anonymous said...

I do this all the time! You should see me on the treadmill at the gym! Well, maybe you really don't want to see that. :)

Anonymous said...

I love to dance and "groove" in public...so do my kids!
I just think of it as making someones day to see some really crazy lady!

Tiffany said...

I am so a dancer and a singer. Not a good dancer or singer, but man do I love to shake my money maker... or big butt..whichever.
